Shop Green, live ethically. Trade for people and planet.
Our purpose
We're showing Aotearoa what a green economy can look like - one that puts people and planet ahead of profit. Our vendors include a range of craftspeople, artists, traders, and businesses who have all demonstrated their commitment to ethical and sustainable production and trade.
An initiative led by the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, the Green Marketplace showcases vendors who are doing business the right way - ethically, sustainably, and regeneratively.
General questions
Who can sell on Green Marketplace?
Any vendor who has demonstrated their commitment to ethical, sustainable trade by meeting the criteria for at least three of our accreditation badges, and shown that their products and practices align with the values of the Green Party Charter.
How does this help the Green Party?
A commission of 10% on every purchase goes towards the Green Party's mission for a just and sustainable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.
How do you make sure vendors aren't green-washing?
When applying to join the Green Marketplace, vendors must provide detailed evidence to show how they're meeting the criteria for their selected accreditation badges. Applications are thoroughly assessed by staff and volunteers before receiving final review from Te Paewhiri Mākete Kakariki - the Green Marketplace Advisory Panel. Te Paewhiri includes members with background experience in environmental accreditation, key office holders, and representatives from across the Green Party. Te Paewhiri are the final decision-making body for vendor applications, ensuring that we've covered all our bases before giving their seal of approval for a vendor to go live on the platform.
Why is the Green Party doing this?
This world is finite, therefore unlimited material growth is impossible. Ecological sustainability is paramount. We want to show Aotearoa what a green economy can look like - one that puts people and planet ahead of profit. There are many craftspeople, artists, traders and businesses who are committed to doing the right thing, but have to compete with bigger players who prioritise profit and can spend more on marketing. We hope to help by providing a dedicated platform that connects ethical traders directly with people who share their values. This is also a new way to help the party raise funds to run effective campaigns and share our progressive vision for a just, sustainable future for Aotearoa.
Who funds Green Marketplace?
Green Marketplace is fully funded by the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. We don't receive any external private or taxpayer funding for the platform, which is developed and managed by Green Party office staff and volunteers.
Is the Green Party promoting consumerism?
Not at all. We’re helping people to buy responsibly by supporting vendors and products that are doing the right thing by people and planet, including a wide variety of artists, small businesses and craftspeople. Those who generate unnecessary waste or environmental harm won't be allowed onto the platform.
Do I need to be a Green Party member or supporter to buy or sell on Green Marketplace?
No. Green Marketplace is open to anyone who wants to participate in ethical trade, and neither purchasing from our vendors or registering as a vendor implies any formal endorsement of the Green Party. The platform is not a political soapbox, and will not be used for statements about government or politics.
I have an issue with my order, can you help?
In most situations, it is best to reach out to the vendor directly. Once we have processed your order and passed it onto a vendor, they are responsible for ensuring that the product is delivered to your satisfaction, as well as for any post-purchase support. However, if you have contacted a vendor and they have not resolved the issue to your satisfaction, please let us know by emailing marketplace@greens.org.nz and we will do what we can to assist where appropriate.
